I almost can't believe they still let us do this.
In today's increasingly over-protective, over-regulated nanny state, it's hard to believe that they still let us drive a rusty old clunker into a gravel bullpen for the sole purpose of crashing into other cars so hard that they become immobile.
But thankfully, we still can.
For those of you unfamiliar with a demolition derby, here's the deal: 8 to 12 specially prepared cars enter a gravel bullpen measuring around 50' by 100'. They close off the entrance, and for the next 20 minutes the drivers will smash into each other until only one is left running.
There are of course a few rules in the interest of safety and fair play, but for the most part you're out there to inflict as much damage as you possibly can.
But like any sport, there's more to it than meets the eye. You won't get very far if you just buy some old clunker, spend a couple hours painting it up, then mindlessly hit everything in sight. While that may be good for a quick adrenaline rush, it won't take you to the winner's podium. Those drivers who know more, try harder, and have more talent will rise to the top of the demolition derby heap, so click around my site and learn more.
